Slingshot Racing (SSR) Ducati Monster 696/1100 Smoke Windscreen

The SSR windscreens are advertised as direct-fit replacements for the factory windscreens on the Ducati 696/1100 Monsters with the "Plus" bikini fairing. The factory windscreens are reported to be acrylic, but I did see a marking "PC" on the original screen. Nonetheless, it was all scuffed and scratched up from sloppy cleanings by the dealership where my bike sat for over 2 years.

The SSR screens are made of polycarbonate, and they immediately felt different from the original screens. The SSR polycarbonate felt very much like the polycarbonate lenses used on Oakley sunglasses and not cheap like the factory screen. The dark smoke windscreen is really dark, probably about as dark or darker than the smoked visors used for Shoei and Arai helmets. I purchased the smoked screen mainly to match the color of my bike and to replaced the scuffed up original screen.

The SSR screen is molded slightly differently from the factory screen, and one of the bolt holes did not completely match up with the factory position, but it was close enough that I could still tighten it down properly. It is the same overall size (height/width), but is cut slightly differently at the leading edge. On a black bike, it doesn't seem to be apparent. On a white or red bike, it might show up.

Overall: 5/5 stars, far less expensive replacement the factory screen. The polycarbonate and hardcoat seems to be significantly better than the factory screen.
