Shoei GT-AIR WANDERER TC-5 SIZE:XXL Motorcycle Full-Face-Helmet Review

I was finally able to take this helmet out for a test ride today now that it stopped raining. First off, it's a Shoei, so you way ahead of the game there. It has an excellent build quality. The helmet is marketed as having superior ventilation, hence the "GT-Air" model name, but there's not a lot of advancement that can be done in that respect these days IMO. So this is the first thing I wanted to check out so I pulled a couple of 90 mph runs to see if there was a noticeable difference (at least that's my story). To be honest I really didn't feel that the ventilation was any better or worse than any other of the premium helmets I have owned, but there was less wind buffeting than on other helmets. Temp was 62 degrees on the day I was riding and a tad muggy. Everything else about this helmet I like. The flip down visor is a bonus, and it creates that cool jet fighter pilot look. It also has a pinlock fog insert which I haven't used yet. Those things along with the emergency cheek pad release system makes me think the GT-Air is a good dollar value for a mid to high end helmet. Again, the "Air" does not refer to the weight but the ventilation characteristics. I put the helmet on my digital scale, not one of those little pot weighing scales but a 0-50lb shipping digital scale and it came in at 59oz's (sans fog insert). In comparison my 5 year old RF-1000 weighed 54.5 oz's so you get the idea, it's not light by any means.

Pros:
Great looks - excellent quality - comfy - quietest helmet I own

Cons:
Ventilation not that spiffy
Weight
No tinted shields available - for obvious reasons I guess.
