FMF Racing Apex Slip-On Muffler - Carbon 045298 Review
Purchased these from a local vendor, very light and very well constructed.
Easy to install on my Harley 2012 XR1200X, remove the bolts from the front (rear foot peg location) and the rear support. You will need to remove the seat cowl to remove the rear support bracket as it is not needed with the Apex slip-ons. There are a pair of tabs located at the front of the riders seat below the tank cover, push them in to pop up the seat and then remove it pulling up and toward the tank. The passenger seat simply pulls up from the rear as it sits on a rubber plug then remove the bracket. Remove the 6 bolts holding the seat cowl in place and remove the cowl. Loosen the factory pipe guards (2 jubilee clips) so they don't interfere with the silencers. Gently work the OEM silencers off the connector pipe just watch you don't suddenly jerk back and hit the rear shock or frame, it pays to cover things with a thick cloth or towel to protect against dings and scratches.
Once off clean the stock pipes then put a small thin film of high temp silicon paste around the Apex plugs and install them into the slip ons, then add a little paste to the inside of the plugs, just squeeze a little on your finger and run it around the inside of the plug for a light even covering. Slide the slip ons on the pipes, if you have the bike on the side stand I would recommend having someone hold the front brake on so that you don't push too hard forward and push the bike off the side stand as you will need a little bit of force to work on the slip ons as they are a snug fit. Install the original bolt to the bracket located near the rear foot peg reasonably snug then check for clearance of the shock so that the slip ons are not hard up against them. Tighten up the pipe shield clips and the mounting bracket and that's it.
These pipes sound like no other on the XR, the bike sounds like a Ducati as everyone likes to point out to me. I absolutely love the sound, not loud or obnoxious but definitely a crowd turner.
I would recommend adding fuel management system like the Patriot Top Fueler as your bike will probably run very lean with the pipes.
